Your local occupational health and safety (OHS) union representatives are serious about wanting to give you excellent service.
However, I have become aware over time that our healthcare professional members have a tendency to believe that the union representatives are automatically informed by the employer about their respective disability cases, whether they are related to an employment injury or not. Yet, that is not really the case, mainly due to reasons of confidentiality. So, if the member does not inform the union representative about her case, the latter will have no other information on hand other than the name of this member as an employee on disability.
Moreover, our members do not seem to realize that the local union representatives can help them in their salary insurance or employment injury cases.
Help us to help you by communicating with your local OHS union representative about your disability. Your representative can answer your questions, inform you about the necessary steps and help you with your case. For example, she can play a key role in facilitating your rehabilitation and your return to work if you have been on a lengthy absence.
