VP Labour Relations, Research, Licensed Practical Nurse position (FIQ)

CIUSSS de l'Estrie - Centre Hosp. Univ. de Sherbrooke (FIQ – Syndicat des professionnelles en soins des Cantons-de-l’Est)

It is with great determination that I am seeking the mandate as licensed practical nurse vice-president at the FIQ.

I have varied union experience, including being involved in several files on the licensed practical nurse profession, such as the integration of licensed practical nurses to the Emergency Department and outpatient services in the Operating Room.

I also participated in the FIQ “Licensed practical nurse, a key professional on the care team” file and as a panelist at the FIQ’s “International Symposium on Safe Care”.

I was on several organization of work, continuing improvement and committee on care committees when I was the licensed practical nurse vice-president for the SISCHUS. I was also assistant grievance agent and in charge of communications before becoming president.

I also have good experience in team management. I am in the process of completing my bachelor’s degree with a “Health Services and Social Services Management” certificate which gives me a good basis for the tasks linked to the licensed practical nurse vice-president position.

My previous experience includes working on a revision of the reserved activities for licensed practical nurses, the intravenous therapy file, integration of a licensed practical nurse to the cast room, and into neonatology when I was involved at the CIIA-CHUS.

I practiced as a licensed practical nurse in various clinical settings, such as long-term care, home care, rehabilitation and in a hospital where I worked in surgery, medicine, the operating room and the Emergency Department. I have experience from various settings for properly representing the healthcare professionals.

Submitting my candidacy for the licensed practical nurse vice-president position of the FIQ is a logical step in continuing my union involvement. I want to continue to take actions for improving the working conditions of all healthcare professionals and for properly representing them. I will be able to work in close collaboration with all the members of the executive committee in dealing with the Federation’s files.

I have the aptitudes and skills to take on the challenge of holding such a position and handle the files associated with the FIQ orientations. I will be able to promote the organization by working in close collaboration with the FIQ employees, elected officers as well as the affiliated unions. It is with great resolve that I am seeking a mandate and asking for your support.

In Solidarity,

Guillaume Carette
