Nurse vice-president, Labour Relations, Research, Negotiation (FIQ)

CHUM (Syndicat des Professionnelles et Professionnels en soins de santé du Centre Hospitalier de l’Université de Montréal (FIQ ))

I am seeking the support of healthcare professionals as I run for the position of nurse vice-president, labour relations, research and negotiation. I am a nurse with a diploma from the Cégep de Thetford. I was introduced to the healthcare field as an orderly at the CLSC de Plessisville in Bois-Francs. I started in nursing at the Hôpital Notre-Dame in Montreal. Then, I finished my bachelor’s in 1995. Next, my desire to travel led me to work in Florida where I helped to integrate handicapped children into regular schools. When I came back in 1999, a strike was going on and I got involved in my local team until the end of the conflict. For the next years, I went on a leave with deferred pay so I could practice in the hospital in Joliette and at the CLSC d’Autray in the Lanaudière region (info-santé).

Once back at Notre-Dame, the hospital merger resulted in a whole new union team. It was my opportunity to get involved. I dove into union life as a member of the local negotiating committee. Then, I was elected by acclamation to the position of president of the SPSS-CHUM FIQ. I have over ten years of experience being around the media in Montreal, actively participating in debates at the federation and integrating licensed practical nurses in several activity sectors. The practice of respiratory therapists, licensed practical nurses and nurses during surgery in the operating room is a good example of work that is an extension of our own. I have participated in two provincial negotiations, helped develop an Excel tool to create legally compliant essential services, and recently helped implement an approach for moving the three CHUM hospitals, and worked to defend the wage rights of French nurses with the Health minister’s office.

With the experience I have gained over the years, I believe I am ready to take on the position as vice-president on the FIQ’s Executive Committee.
