Reaction to Minister Carlos Leitão’s economic update

“After having cut a billion dollars over the last few years, the Liberal government is now trying to put out the fires that they, themselves, ignited. The re-investment in health announced today will never be able to repair all the wrongs that the Minster of Health and Social Services has caused to the patients and the healthcare professionals. This economic update resembles more a public relations operation than an effective strategy for improving the quality and the safety of the care. The addition of 300 million dollars a year will not cover the growth in the costs of the health care system.  So, we will have to live with budget cuts, once again, in the coming years which will again affect the patients.” It was in these words that, on October 25 last, the president of the FIQ, Régine Laurent, reacted to the presentation of the government’s economic update by the Minister of Finance, Carlos Leitão.
