The FIQ would like to remind its members that since 2013 they have had the option to buy back a leave they may have taken while they were occasional employees or part-time employees. If you made a request in the past to buy back a leave and it was refused because you were an occasional employee or if it was granted solely based on your part-time position and not on the average of days worked, then we suggest you make a new buy back claim. It should be approved this time. It is always a good idea to buy back because it increases your retirement pension and even means you can retire at an earlier date, depending on the type of buyback.
