Union victory at the CHSLD Denis-Benjamin-Viger – A new round in the legal arena

The FIQ and FIQ – Syndicat des professionnelles en soins de santé de l’Ouest-de-l’Île-de-Montréal’s ongoing battle at the CHSLD Denis-Benjamin-Viger begins a new legal round.

The Court of Appeal welcomes the union’s request to appeal Judge St-Pierre’s decision, rendered on April 11, which partially overturned an arbitration decision rendered in April 2018 ordering the employer to schedule enough staff to provide safe, quality care in the CHSLD.

The decision is a wonderful victory for the FIQ and local union because it ensures that the measures ordered by the arbitration decision in April 2018 and implemented in the institution, will be maintained until the appeal has been heard. This saga has been going on for over three years and the FIQ will continue to fight this battle to ensure that healthcare professionals will be adequately staffed in order to provide safe, quality care in the CHSLD and throughout the entire health network.
