Contamination by the ventilation system: the FIQ and FIQP is standing up for the physical well-being of their members

Today, the Fédération interprofessionnelle de la santé du Québec-FIQ and Fédération interprofessionnelle de la santé du Québec | Secteur privé (FIQP) filed an inspection complaint with the Commission des normes, de l’équité, de la santé et de la sécurité du travail (CNESST), for all the residential and long-term care centres (CHSLD) with outbreaks in Québec. In this complaint, the two Federations are summoning the CNESST to conduct an analysis of the air quality and inspect the ventilation and air recycling systems in each one of these institutions. This happened after learning about a risk of contamination with COVID-19 by the ventilation and air recirculation systems.

Aware that the CNESST has limited resources, the Federations chose to include only the CHSLDs in Québec with an outbreak. However, they are not excluding the possibility of filing new complaints for other CHSLDs in Québec, in the event that the administrators of these institutions fail to comply with their legal obligations regarding inspection and prevention.
