The FIQ met with the OPIQ today

Two members of the FIQ’s Executive Committee, Linda Lapointe, respiratory therapist Vice-President, and Jérôme Rousseau, Vice-President and Joint Political Officer for the Organization of Work and Professional Practice Sector, met this morning with the OPIQ’s executive director, Josée Prud’Homme.

Their discussion focused primarily on respiratory therapists’ excessive workload in the health network. The work overload directly affects the quality of care that respiratory therapists can provide on a daily basis. What’s more, the FIQ and the OPIQ had some productive talks about developing respiratory therapists’ scope of practice.

The FIQ also explained to the OPIQ its current approach to safe healthcare professional-to-patient ratios, which would allow respiratory therapists to provide safe, quality care to patients while reducing their workload.
