March 8—a day of action!

The Collectif 8 mars is celebrating the International Day of Women’s Rights to the theme of “Feminist with all of our might.” For several weeks now, the Collectif 8 mars has been calling for mobilization, with a focus on women’s voices. One of their initiatives includes asking the community to participate in a photo-sharing campaign on social media and to send postcards to Isabelle Charest, the Minister responsible for the Status of Women.

This year’s visual features women, hand-in-hand, with their arms raised in victory to symbolize the unification of feminist battles. “This visual speaks of sharing and liberation, which we can only accomplish together as a collective. The poster is a joyous, colourful celebration of the international and intersectional aspects of the struggles for this year’s World March of Women,” said Marlihan Lopez, spokesperson for the Collectif and Vice-President of the Fédération des femmes du Québec.

In support of the World March of Women
The Collectif 8 mars decided to support feminists across the world in the World March of Women through their actions, which will take place from March 8 to October 17, 2020. In Quebec, the next World March of Women gathering will take place on October 17 in Terrebonne. “All Quebeckers are invited to march in support of demands that fall under five major themes: poverty, violence, climate justice, immigrant, migrant and racialized women, and Indigenous women. These are fundamental issues that deserve strong mobilization!” added Marlihan Lopez.

Marching with Women of Diverse Origins (WDO)
The Collectif 8 mars is also inviting people to join in the demonstration organized by WDO on March 8 at 1 p.m. at Square Cabot, in Montreal, near the Atwater metro station.
