Brief presented to the coroner’s public inquest on the deaths in some CHSLDs during the first wave of the pandemic

FIQ members have been and still are on the front lines in the battle against COVID-19, actively participating in delivering the care required by the RSSS users during this health crisis. The Federation reiterates that for its members, residents in CHSLDs represent a second family. A large majority of them are traumatized by the scenes they witnessed during the first wave of     COVID-19. They will forever be marked by these terrible events unworthy of a developed country.

In a brief made public yesterday, the FIQ is therefore making recommendations to ensure better protection of the life of vulnerable residents, workers and Quebec society as a whole. It is asking that the government table a law on implementing safe healthcare professional-to-patient ratios in CHSLDs.

Remember that the coroner’s public inquest is on the deaths that happened between March 12 and May 1, 2020, at CHSLD Herron, CHSLD Sainte-Dorothée, CHSLD Yvon-Brunet, CHSLD des Moulins, CHSLD Laflèche, CHSLD René-Lévesque and the RPA Manoir Liverpool.
