Amélie Barrette

Status of Women Committee

CIUSSS du Saguenay - Lac-Saint-Jean (FIQ – Syndicat des professionnelles en soins du Saguenay-Lac-Saint-Jean)

My name is Amélie Barrette, Nurse at the CIUSSS du Saguenay Lac-Saint-Jean.

I have been a union rep for 5 years. Prior to that, I was the nurse representative at the IRDPQ where I attended several women’s and youth networks, wrote the union newsletter and the Facebook group. I discovered a real passion and since I have been involved with the FIQ, I have grown tremendously as a person. I am accomplished and fulfilled. The values and actions conveyed by this committee make me proud and speak to my deep beliefs.

Since coming to Alma, I have been involved in the Youth Committee, HRDP Committee, been a department pivot, took part in the internship in Nicaragua, elected to the FIQ Status of Women Committee last year for the end of a mandate and newly elected as grievance agent on my local team.

Being involved at the FIQ goes without saying. The status of women is very important to me. My hope is that we talk about the person and not the gender, that we stop comparing men and women and that every person, regardless of gender, is equal. We all have the same value but for this women must be given the power to feel strong, confident and capable of accomplishing anything for us and future generations. That is why I would like to take part in the networks.

Thank you for your trust.
