A few weeks before the elections, the FIQ invited the main political parties to debate the issues directly affecting healthcare professionals and the health network.

On September 14, 2026, four candidates responded to the invitation:

• Guillaume Cliche-Rivard, Québec solidaire
• Monsef Derraji, Parti libéral du Québec
• Karim Elayoubi, Parti conservateur du Québec
• Camille Pellerin-Forget, Parti Québécois

After accepting the invitation, the team of Christine Fréchette, of the Coalition Avenir Québec, finally turned it down.

Hosted by Noémi Mercier, the debate provided an opportunity to compare the parties’ proposals and commitments on a number of issues: frontline services, the role of the private sector, excessive workloads, safe ratios and the governance of the network.

An important commitment to bear in mind

The four parties present at the debate stated they were in favour of safe healthcare professional-to-patient ratios.

The FIQ will therefore be on hand as of October 6 to discuss the gradual roll-out of safe ratios with the new government.
