Prescillia Assepo
Anti-Racism Committee
CIUSSS du Nord-de-l'Île-de-Montréal
Of Ivory Coast descent, born in France and immigrated to Québec in 2023, I have been a nurse since 2011 and am currently a member of the FIQ SPSNIM executive committee. I have worked in several sectors of the health network, which has given me the opportunity to develop a broad view of clinical, human and organizational realities. I recently replaced the nurse vice-president before being named vice-president secretary.
As a woman from a visible minority who has personally experienced certain forms of discrimination, I understand the real impact that racism, whether overt or subtle, can have on psychological health, sense of belonging and professional growth.
My commitment to the standing Anti-Racism Committee stems as much from my personal experience as from my union responsibilities. I want to help strengthen safe spaces for discussion, support awareness-raising in the field, and develop practical tools to better prevent and respond to situations of discrimination. Equity, inclusion and respect must cease to be intentions: they must become practices.
