Sébastien Bouchard

Vice-president (Union Organizing, Education-Animation)

Institut universitaire de cardiologie et pneumologie

Hello,

I am a resident of Quebec City and nurse in intensive care at the IUCPQ since 2002. I began my union career in 2014 as the VP RLT. Convinced I was in the right place, I was elected local president of the SIIQ team in 2016. Committed and determined to make a difference, I was a member of the Negotiating Committee in April 2019. In 2023, I was elected to the FIQ strategic coordination committee. Thanks to these experiences, I understand the basics of the FIQ structure and the local constitution and bylaws. My union knowledge of the field as local president has enabled me to create a relationship of trust with the members.

Proximity with our healthcare professionals is essential. Going to see them on the 3 shifts to educate, train or just discuss their needs with them are very important actions in mobilization. It needs to take root with the 80,000 healthcare professionals.

I’m a union rep of action, I’m dynamic, persistent, bold and authentic. My skills as a communicator and explainer enable me to be convincing and motivating. I have a lot of experience in the field of finance, RLT, the Committee on Care, OHS and local mobilization. One of my objectives is to take advantage of the permanent mobilization structure to anchor us ever further in the field. It’s essential to develop it further. We need to show a combative leadership for our nurses, licensed practical nurses, respiratory therapists and clinical perfusionists.

Despite the government’s impact, together, we have moved forward without ever backing down. We’re right in the middle of the deployment of Santé Québec. In the meantime, we need to continue to get closer to our members in the field in order to get organized and continue the fight.

The context is austerity. I’m convinced that the FIQ is the best union to represent Class 1. I’m positive and convinced that together we can go further. I believe in us and in the members. I’m asking for your support to be on the FIQ Executive Committee to work in collaboration with the affiliated unions, employees and healthcare professionals.

Sincerely yours,
