The FIQ discusses ratios with the B.C. Nurses’ Union

Healthcare professionals in British Columbia were the first in Canada to obtain safe ratios. During their visit to Montreal, three representatives from this sister labour organization agreed to meet and talk with us on this major win, as well as on how it happened. It goes without saying that what B.C. healthcare professionals achieved is a true inspiration for the FIQ.

Our conversations also showed us just how similar the challenges in British Columbia are to those in Quebec: labour shortage, work overload, growing dependence on independent labour, and poor management.

This discussion reminded us once again that safe healthcare professional-to-patient ratios are not just a figment of our imagination, they are crucial and they are within reach.

The road our colleagues in British Columbia travelled to achieve their goal provides a glimpse into the work we must do here in Quebec. And discussions like these will certainly help us make ratios a reality.
