Stella Larochelle

Vice-president (Sociopolitical, Status of Women, Solidarity)

CIUSSS de l'Est-de-l'Île-de-Montréal

Dear union representatives,

I am standing before you to submit my candidacy for the position of vice-president, officer for the Sociopolitical, Status of Women and Solidarity Sector within our Federation.

A committed feminist, I have been a healthcare professional and union rep for over 13 years.

My career as a union rep started at the Hôpital Santa Cabrini, where I held the position of local president before the Barrette reform. Then, I took on various roles: officer for the status of women and OHS, grievance agent, nurse vice-president and today, I am vice-president of the SPSESTÎM executive committee at the Hôpital Santa Cabrini.

These experiences have enabled me to develop a solid understanding of the healthcare professionals’ realities and to forge a deep union commitment.

My involvement on the Negotiating Committee gave me the opportunity to really understand the local, provincial and federation structures. This experience also enabled me to share and better grasp the regional and metropolitan issues of the 80,000 healthcare professionals we represent.

Defending the members’ interests has always been at the heart of my priorities. The FIQ, as an organization, defends its members’ rights, but it is also a major vector of influence  for women’s rights and those of minorities. It denounces systemic racism.

As a woman from an ethno-cultural background, I want to put my knowledge, skills and experience at the service of a federation that is committed, inclusive and supportive.

I have principles and convictions!

I want to see more and more women in decision-making positions that influence policy. And I dare to believe that one day, I will inspire some of them to take up positions that will shape the Québec of tomorrow.

I’m a team player, I’m close to people, I’m dedicated, I bring people together and I’m not afraid of a challenge. As a fighter, I am deeply concerned about the rise of the right.

We must resist the rollback of rights for women, the LGBTQ+ community and ethnic minorities, and continue to fight against social inequalities. It is by working together, in solidarity, that we will be the strongest.
